Mr. and Mrs. Crabbe are enjoying their seaside vacation . . . until a certain dog blows away their umbrella with an enormous fart. Before long, Walter is banned from the beach. Walter the Farting dog is not worth the price. Silly attempt to teach tolerance for differences… way over an elementary student’s head.

I purchase one of these books for my flatulent, 39 year old brother every year for Christmas. Each one is just as entertaining as the last. The whole family gathers around, while he reads it aloud and we all laugh until we cry…..and yes, there are adult beverages involved in this tradition. There’s even a Walter, The Farting Dog stuffed animal available that certainly adds a nice touch to the family tradition. Anyway, I can’t say that there is any great educational or moral value, it’s just simple entertainment (emphasis on simple).

You have to start with a certain level of acceptance when you pick up a kids’ book titled Walter The Farting Dog: Banned From the Beach. I suspect those without that level of acceptance won’t pick it up in the first place.
Walter has a gas problem. The same gas that gets him in trouble at the beach ends up… well, that’s the story! However, “the point” here is weak. No matter what planet you’re from, the theme of the story is… what? You are weird if you are irritated by dogs behaving badly on the beach or elsewhere? Society should accept everything? How about, dog owners are okay even if they are not responsible. Or, don’t worry, be happy? I realize that stories for kids are allowed to be… just fun. I’d put this one in that category. But I’ve heard that there ARE themes here: don’t rush to judgment, be accepting, defend the defenseless, and so on. These themes weren’t here for me.
But the artwork! Superb work, indeed. The book certainly didn’t need a “scratch’n sniff” strip to make you aware of Walter’s little problem.

I ordered this book after seeing one at the library. Kids think farts are funny so what could be funnier than a farty dog? These books help kids find humor in an unfortunate human function–everybody farts. The illustrations are really good, very colorful, and children would like them very much. I bought the book for my great-grandson who will LOVE it.

A cleaver cute book. I actually bought this for an adult named Walter who has a beach house. I thought he would get a kick out of it. Also, his extended family includes children and teenagers and I though they would find this book funny.
